“I’ll Rescue You & Then Give You a Party!”

“Like the Prodigal, I was received with lavish love and grace, yet that wasn’t the last time, only the first. ” Annette Trucke/2016 Photo on Mt. Pisgah, Lane County, Oregon.

Does the prodigal story resonate with you like it does me?

I don’t think it is just because of my own experience coming to Christ, though it may be, but it seems to be the whole incredible lavish storyline that makes me want to smile and cry at the same time.
The Father, running to the son, restoring him, and throwing Him a party! That is the kind of life we lead in the grace and fullness of God. Not that we insist and squander as the Prodigal did (or we have) that not the way we walk with God–or others. (Luke 15:11-32)
I was reading the Message version of Psalm 91 this morning; here is the latter part, verses 14-16:
“If you hold on to me for dear life,” says God,
“I’ll get you out of any trouble.
I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me.
Call on me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I’ll give you a long life,
Give you a long drink of salvation.”
Psalm 91:14-16 is the essence of grace, underserved, and lavishly applied to all mankind. By the God who waits because of His faithfulness to an often unfaithful people.
I needed to share this today. It seems like such crazy good news that I should be blogging about this kind of favor from God every day, all day. Oh the joy and freedom that comes from His grace. We do our best, especially regarding those we love, but everyday most of us blow it in one way or another. That’s why I delight in grace, mercy, compassion…and the character of a God who declares His mercies are new EVERY morning (Lamentations 3:23).
How do you respond to these scriptures? How about this amazing song, When God Ran, by Phillips, Craig, and Dean, first done by the amazing Benny Hester.
